We provide comprehensive advice before any commitment
Designing a garage conversion
The first step of any garage conversion project is to get a proper understanding of both the existing space as it is now, as well as to gain a full understanding of what it is that you want to achieve.
We’ll factor in all of your preferences and what it is that you actually want to achieve from the finished result as well as our insightful, in-depth knowledge of the architectural process to create the optimal solution for your conversion.
Planning Permission for Garage Conversions
Garage conversions in the majority of cases won’t need to have planning permission. As long as you’re not changing the layout or the position of the existing garage, and you’re not in a conservation area or in an article 4 area, it’s normally just not required.
Instead of this, and to get a Certificate of Lawful Development, we’d look down the route of a Permitted development enquiry, gaining your proof of an acceptable project and making sure that you have what you need to move forward with the process.

Building Regulations for Garage Conversions
After any planning requirements, the next stage in the process, especially for a habitable space being created lie a bedroom or annexe, is to have building regulations drawings crated. These drawings are then submitted to Building Control to get you approval.
These detail the finer aspects of the build like heating, lighting, materials, fire safety and more that are all required to make the completed project legally up to scratch. These drawings can then be given to builders to get you an accurate quote for the work, too.
Converting the Garage
Finally, when all drawings are completed and all relevant permissions or approvals are gained, the final step of the process is of course the conversion itself.
While we are not builders, we do have a range of resources and additional services to offer you, ranging from builders that we recommend right through to full project management.
